Hi, I'm Dani, and I'm so happy you're here! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate, and I am the owner + founder of New Perspectives Mental Health Serices, PLLC. My hope is that if you are reading this, you are ready to take the next step in your mental health journey. Anxiety shows up differently for everyone. Maybe you just started college and feel lost and overwhelmed or have just moved to a new city with no support system in place. You could be trying to decide what career will be the best fit, or maybe you feel confused after realizing that you don't want to continue in the career you chose several years ago. Oftentimes in early adulthood, relationships can also bring anxiety whether they be with friends, family, or romantic partners. Do you want to learn how to be your most authentic self while also managing life's stressors? Then I want to help! Although I specialize in working with clients ages 18-30, everyone is welcome to reach out to connect. Our work will be collaborative. My approach is integrative, but I lean heavily towards cognitive behavioral therapy. This means that we will spend a great deal of our time focusing on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors connect. We will also work together to build new coping skills so that you are able to continue the work outside of the therapy "room." I strongly believe that every person's needs are different, and I am prepared to meet you where you are.

I believe in the basic goodness and natural wisdom of all human beings. Layers of confusion and unconscious wounds can disconnect us from our true selves. We may end up feeling bad and acting in ways that hurt our relationships— with ourselves, with others, and with this magnificent planet. We become hard and out of touch with our lives and callings. Real, deep change is possible when we face ourselves and our challenges with honesty, willingness, and compassion. - As your counselor, I will adventure with you into the weird and wonderful world of your own inner self. I'll use techniques rooted in Experiential Dynamic Therapy to help you touch into the freedom and wisdom already inside you and to overcome the barriers that arise on the path toward that life. Expect to be cared for and to be challenged— if you’re living in a stuffy little house made of old, limiting patterns, it might be time for some demolition work. I’m not afraid to hand you the sledgehammer, and I’ll be with you as you begin to step forward into an open, affirming wilderness of possibility.

I work with adolescents, adults, as well as couples and families. Additionally, I specialize working with all aspects of eating disorders from anorexia to binge eating. Hardworking, ambitious, fucking exhausted. I work with women (18–30) who look like they have it together but are absolutely depleting themselves to stay that way. They’re responsible, creative, used to handling a lot…but they’re tired of overthinking, second-guessing, or feeling like no matter how hard they work, it’s never enough. Some have anxiety, depression, ADHD, or trauma histories. Others just know something feels off, that life feels heavier than it should. Often, they’re great at coping on the outside, which can make it hard to admit they’re struggling at all. But let’s be honest: Appearing “fine” is a full-time job. In therapy, we slow things down on purpose. We look at the patterns you’ve been stuck in — people-pleasing, avoidance, self-criticism — and figure out what’s actually driving them. We work with your nervous system instead of fighting against it. We build practical tools that help you move forward in your life. My style is warm, direct, & honest. I care deeply about my clients and will absolutely challenge you when it matters. I use EMDR, ACT, & DBT skills in ways that are personal and actually useful.

About me: I am a licensed psychologist focusing on work with trauma/complex trauma, eating disorder and body image recovery, relationship concerns, LGBTQ+ and polyamory, depression, anxiety, and college-related concerns. I am Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained and offer this service virtually for clients as well as a registered yoga teacher and love incorporating yoga foundations into clinical and body work. As a queer, agnostic person looking to challenge diet culture/anti-fatness, racial discrimination, anti-queer and other justice issues, you'll see this perspective play out in our work together. I find working with those both with similar and different identities to be fulfilling and approach each person with curiosity and empowerment. I have a strong interest in and passion for helping individuals explore their intersecting identities and roles and the ways in which they move through and exist in the systems in place in the community and in the world. Education & Training: I am a licensed psychologist specializing in the treatment of complex/trauma, eating disorders and body image concerns, LGBTQ+/CNM concerns, religious abuse and deconstruction, and anxiety, depression, and stress. I orient my work with focusing on individual, cultural, and trauma-informed perspectives, with a focus on social justice and a system-oriented perspective. I combine various empirically validated approaches based on need, concerns, and preference, from foundational humanistic and multicultural-feminist frameworks to interpersonal, internal family systems, and/or third-wave approaches (ACT, DBT, or CBT). I specialize in working with the young adult and/or college student population, but enjoy all ages! I enjoy utilizing humor, creative approaches to therapy, and aim to balance support and challenge for personal growth. Panacea Mental Wellness Practice Values P – Person Centered A – Affirming N – Nurturing A – Authentic C – Collaborating E – Empowering A – Accountability Panacea Mental Wellness, PLLC provides an affirming place for folx to create their authentic lives. Together, we focus on clients’ strengths so they can overcome low self-confidence and experience the life they deserve. Whether this is your first time ever in therapy or the millionth therapist you have reached out to, you are taking the time to find the best fit. I’m Dana, and I help folx just like you: ones that have it within them to be true to who they are and just want some support to get there. The clients I work with have dealt with some tough $hit. I help my clients find confidence and self-compassion by equipping them with the tools they need to unmask and live authentically. My clients describe me as making them feel “normal” and that they wish we had met as friends. Together, we will focus on what is important to you. In a world that often feels like it was not made for you, this is a place when you can show up authentically. I know that everyone wants something different in therapy, so I stay flexible and adjust to your needs. At the end of each session, I ask for your feedback so I can make the next session better. I am dedicated to helping people find their true selves again. As someone who is in therapy themself, I recognize the importance of the therapeutic alliance. My background and training as a Certified Peer Support Specialist means I am a human first and foremost. I became a therapist because I wanted to contribute to changing the system by decolonizing it from the inside. I use the privilege that comes with the education I received and research I have done to help you with assessments, accommodation requests, and letters of support in addition to ongoing therapy for individuals, couple/ relationships, families, and groups. You want to know you’re working with someone who “gets” it, right? I get it because in different ways, I’ve lived it myself. I know how tough it can be to feel down and want to get that confidence back. So when we work together, you won’t just get a trained therapist. You’ll get someone who truly understands what you’re going through.

Therapy is a collaborative process. One that involves the client, the therapist, and the relationships and experiences that have shaped us throughout our lives. The reasons that bring you to this page are unique and specific to you. Finding the best therapeutic fit is no different. Often the path that led you here has been one full of reflection, questions and challenging decisions. At times that path can also feel uncertain, overwhelming, or confusing. My hope for you is that this is a step in the direction towards peace and insight while providing comfort knowing that you no longer need to take additional steps on your own. My work with adolescents, couples, and families began long before my therapeutic training and became more specialized over time. I utilize a strength-based, empowering and trauma informed approach while integrating humor and warmth. My work with youth in residential settings and parent coaching has shaped my style to be direct while compassionate. If you have decided that we may work well together, have additional questions, or would like to reach out for a consultation; I look forward to connecting soon. Only you can determine what feels best as a next step. My hope is to assist you through your process while working together to identify a direction that supports you and your therapeutic goals.

You’re up late doom-scrolling Instagram wondering why everyone else seems to have it together. It seems impossible to not compare yourself to others and you think, “if I could just lose weight, I’d be happy.” It feels like you’re doing the “right things” but you still worry it’s not enough. You’ve become your own worst critic, constantly feeling like you aren’t living up to your expectations. You can’t help but notice there’s a tightness in your chest when you realize you have another task to add to your to-do list. Lately, it feels like your anxiety is running your life and your self-esteem is at an all-time low. It’s okay to exhale. Therapy is an empowering space to cope with the “what ifs”, build self-compassion, and discover food freedom. Imagine being able to close your laptop at the end of the day and feel accomplished, even if it means you didn’t “do it all.” Picture yourself grabbing lunch with friends and ordering what you actually want, without the guilt. I support college students wanting to heal their relationship with food and their body, and release the pressure to be perfect. I offer a free 15 minute video consultation call to chat about what's bringing you to therapy, answer any questions you have, and see if we'd be a good fit. Send me an email to get started! Licensed in NC, SC, and VA.

I believe that all people are capable of change and have the internal capacity to shift unhealthy patterns in their lives. Sometimes, we need a little help because we get "stuck" in old patterns that have been well honed through past hurts or traumatic events and cannot seem to find a new path forward. This is not through a lack of desire of wanting it to be different, but due to the impact that these difficult and painful life events have had on the part of our brain that controls how we react to these stressors. When we experience deep pain-- through relationships, situations, or trauma--these experiences are stored deeply in the subcortical area of the brain. This pain remains there, unprocessed, and can cause disruptions in day to day life. This can look like over-reactions to noise/stress due to growing up in a chaotic environment, difficulty asserting yourself with heart palpitations and chest tightness due to that "bad boss" that berated you, stomach pain every time you drive by your ex's neighborhood despite the fact that you have not dated in years, or overwhelming grief each year when the anniversary of a significant loss occurs. While traditional talk therapy can be helpful, it is not able to access the deeper, subcortical areas of the brain. I utilize Brainspotting as a therapeutic technique, to support the brain's self scanning and self-healing capacity. Brainspotting enables you to access these stored experiences and integrate them in a more functional way. By utilizing an eye position relevant to the issue you are wanting to address, and a "felt sense" of this issue in the body, deep brain processing is able to occur. This bypasses the conscious, "thinking" part of the brain, and leads to lasting change. I also utilize a blend of other approaches including cognitive behavior therapy, mindfulness, directive and non-directive play therapy and draw from attachment based and neuroscience supported interventions in my work. Lisa Peaty received her Masters in Social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has over 20 years of clinical social work experience, working with children, adults, and families and has spent the past 15 years practicing as a therapist in the Winston-Salem community. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, baking, exercising and reading.

The world is intense right now, isn’t it? And on top of it all, you're having to juggle school, a social life, and everything else! I imagine you might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, tense, stuck, lonely, ashamed, worried, sad, or any other number of feelings. Or maybe you just feel numb or not sure what you’re feeling anymore. That’s okay. All of you is welcome here. I’m here to support you wherever you are, working together to explore your world and where to go from here. Whether it be the systems we live in, events from your past or present, the patterns inside you, connections in your life, or something else that brings you here, we will explore next steps together. My counseling style integrates many different elements. I am person-centered, where I seek to understand your experience from your perspective, and use multicultural counseling, where I consider the systems that impact your life. I am trauma-focused, trained in EMDR therapy and acute stress modalities to support you in moving through trauma, whether it be acute, ongoing, or long past. I also have a somatic focus, inviting your body’s wisdom and parts into the session, and an attachment-based lens, looking at how your early relationships influence how you relate to others now. I most often work with people who have experienced trauma, who have negative beliefs about themself they just can't shake, and/or who are in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those who are trans* or gender expansive. I also have experience supporting neurodiverse people; individuals struggling with anxiety or grief; and people going through personal, spiritual, vocational, and relational transitions. I know the search for a counselor can be difficult because I have been there many times myself. Please reach out if you have any questions! I would love to connect and see if we might be a good fit to begin a counseling journey together. A little about me outside of being a counselor: I enjoy wandering in nature, dancing, reading, playing board games, and connecting with loved ones near and far. I also spend a fair bit of time on my own self-growth, including undoing racism within me, taking care of my wounded parts, and reaching out for support as needed.

Do you feel like you are strapped on a roller coaster of anxiety and depression and can't get off the ride? We can feel out of control because of life changes, relationships, and significant events. We can become stuck in our own unhealthy thoughts, emotions, actions, and responses. Sometimes we hyper-focus on relationships and fixing other people. Or we may develop unhealthy patterns when using things outside of ourselves to experience immediate relief and help us cope. This may include alcohol, marijuana, pills, food, porn, exercise, gaming, social media, shopping, and gambling. You need somewhere safe to talk about the hard stuff. Every person has difficulties that feel overwhelming at some point in their lives. Being willing to ask for assistance is a courageous gift to yourself. I find it gratifying to help people struggling with anxiety and depression related to challenges in life and relationships. You are worth your own effort in becoming a healthier version of yourself! I look forward to being a part of the journey!

Freedom from emotional hijack is found in noticing, naming, and knowing. This can be the gift of psychotherapy. Congratulations on looking for a therapist and trying to figure out what will be best for you! It can seem like it requires endurance, when all you’re trying to do is get your mental health needs met. The good news is there are lots and lots of great therapy practices! And a practice or a therapist that’s a great fit for one person, doesn’t mean that it is for you! All that matters is what works for you. Whether you feel nervous, doubtful, unsure, excited, and/or anything else, let’s chat, when/if you’re ready. Just because we talk, doesn’t mean you have to start therapy!
