Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
In-Person
Boston, MA

I'm a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with dual master's degrees in nursing from Norwich University and in mental health counseling from UMass Boston. My path into mental health care started with a deep interest in the stories people carry and the strength it takes to face life's hardest moments. Early in my career, I worked as a licensed mental health counselor, and that foundation continues to shape how I show up with patients today—with empathy, respect, and a genuine belief in your ability to change and grow. I bring over a decade of experience across multiple care settings, including community mental health, inpatient detoxification, and residential substance use treatment. These experiences gave me the privilege of working with people facing overwhelming challenges—from stigma and systemic barriers to the invisible grip of substance use disorder. What always stood out was their resilience and courage. Being part of that healing process is what keeps me grounded and motivated in this work. I use an integrated approach to care that recognizes the whole person—your biology, psychology, relationships, and life experiences. I start by building trust and understanding your unique strengths. From there, I draw on evidence-based modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, and acceptance & commitment therapy. When appropriate, I incorporate medication as a supportive tool. This combined approach lets us tailor your care plan based on what will work best for you. Sessions with me are collaborative and human. You can expect a mix of warmth, curiosity, and clinical expertise, with space to explore what's going on underneath the surface, not just treat symptoms. Whether we're unpacking old patterns, navigating substance use recovery, or exploring a new diagnosis, we'll do it together, at your pace. Humor often plays a part—it helps us connect, process heavy moments, and remember that healing doesn't always have to feel heavy. I have specific experience working with patients navigating substance use disorders and members of the LGBTQ+ community. I welcome individuals from all walks of life, especially those who may have felt unseen or unheard in previous mental health settings. What sets me apart is my ability to meet people where they are—with compassion, clinical depth, and a commitment to care that's personal and empowering. I don't believe in "fixing" people. I believe in partnering with you to uncover your strengths, shift unhelpful patterns, and build a life that feels more aligned with who you truly are. Outside of work, I ground myself through meditation, time in nature, and quiet moments by the water. These practices help me stay connected to myself and to the values that guide my work. For me, self-care isn't about doing things perfectly—it's about tuning in, being real, and giving ourselves permission to rest and reset. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just unsure of where to start, you don't have to figure it all out alone. Reaching out is a brave first step. I'm here to help you take the next one.

Boston, MA

I am a board-certified, Harvard-trained psychiatrist and co-founder of Boston Psychiatry Center. My mission is to provide thoughtful, high-quality, and accessible outpatient psychiatric care for patients and their families. I take time to get to know each patient as a person, not just a collection of symptoms. I believe that understanding someone’s story (how they think, feel, and navigate challenges) is essential to helping them improve. In addition to my work at Boston Psychiatry Center, I am on staff at McLean Hospital and MGH. These experiences let me stay at the forefront of psychiatric research and clinical care. I offer financial discounts to students using out-of-network benefits. If I am out-of-network with your plan, I can process your out-of-network claims so you only pay your portion of the cost (your coinsurance). I prescribe medications, offer therapy, can provide a second opinion, and I can mix-and-match as needed to tailor care to your needs. I am comfortable with a wide range of mental health concerns, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and ADHD. Reach out if you want someone who is personable and compassionate, but also willing to challenge you to reach your goals. I am told that I am deeply attentive, mixing serious moments with much-needed fun and humor. I enjoy getting to know my patients, connecting with them, and watching them improve.

My name is Dr. William Butler, and I am a Harvard-trained, board-certified psychiatrist. I have advanced training from Massachusetts General Hospital, McLean Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. I work with adult patients experiencing depression and mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, personality patterns, and neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and autism. I offer psychotherapy, medication management, and practical planning for work, school, and relationships. Starting treatment is a meaningful step, especially if previous approaches haven’t been helpful. My role is to offer clear, thoughtful care and working together to craft a treatment plan. For nearly 15 years, I worked as a high school teacher, advisor, dean, and administrator. Working with adolescents was fun, rewarding, and dynamic. As a social worker, I have worked in college settings, residential substance use treatment, and a community mental health clinic. I have significant clinical experience supporting clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use, and specialize in working with adolescents, college students and emerging adults. I bring a particular appreciation for the stage of life between childhood and full adulthood, an understanding of the pressures of this age range, and a wealth of experience helping people navigate the challenges of growing up. I feel comfortable working with people of all identities and backgrounds. I specialize in supporting adolescents and young adults, Jewish and other faith communities, and older adults. I strive to be culturally competent and curious as I learn about another person. I believe everyone needs to be heard and helped regardless of religion, creed, or political beliefs.

Sara Lucas

Pre-Licensed Professional

Dedham, MA

Hi, I’m Sara (she/her). My approach to therapy is warm, honest, curious, non-judgmental, and above all, relational. My primary focus is on co-creating an authentic therapeutic relationship where you experience the safety, empathy, and trust which make room for experimenting with new ways of thinking and being. I believe there is no one “right” way to engage in therapy, just as there is no one “right” way to live a life. Sometimes we need to deeply understand (and mourn) the past, sometimes we need practical tools for navigating a challenging present, and sometimes we simply need space to be witnessed without having to hold it all together. I am interested in working with clients across the lifespan and with a variety of presenting concerns. Our work might range from open-ended “talk therapy” to more structured interventions depending on what works best for you. You certainly don’t need to come in knowing exactly what you need out of therapy, either: we can figure it all out together! My work is integrative, drawing from a variety of theoretical orientations including trauma- and complex trauma-informed, attachment-informed, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral. I have clinical interest and prior experience in working with complex trauma survivors as well as with adult women with lived experience in the commercial sex trade, including trafficking and exploitation. In addition to counseling, I am a member of the Human Trafficking Research Hub at William James College, where I contribute to research on the psychological consequences of sex trafficking. I received my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Holistic Studies specialization from Lesley University and a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from Wellesley College (Go Blue!). Whether or not we end up working together, I hope the right help finds you, and that whatever you’re holding grows lighter to carry.

We accept insurance, we move quickly, and we genuinely care about your outcome. Starting therapy takes courage, and my goal is to make that step feel safe, supportive, and free of judgment. I work with older teens, adults, couples, and families who want to feel less overwhelmed and more confident in themselves and their relationships. I believe everyone has the ability to improve self-esteem, manage emotions more effectively, and develop stronger coping skills. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. I combine insight with practical, evidence-based tools to help you move forward. Greetings, I am an 11 year Marine Corps veteran (2003 to 2014), experienced in working with anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use disorders. My main approach is person centered with a spattering of CBT, ACT, and REBT. Feel free to chat with me a bit and see if we work well together.
