I am an experienced therapist who helps adults and adolescents with anxiety, life transitions, and trauma recovery. I offer a personalized approach to each client's unique needs. I help teens and adults move from anxiety, anger, and panic into greater self-understanding, self-acceptance, and healthier relationships. Using EMDR, we focus on creating deep, lasting change—so you can feel more in control, connected, and free in daily life. I consider each client's unique characteristics, strengths, values, and needs to create a unique treatment plan for each client. My approach is to come alongside my clients in a way that is free from shame and judgment while creating a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment. I work with people who believe that relationships (with others, ourselves, and our environments) are what make life meaningful. If you’re struggling to feel consistent or fulfilled, I can provide support while we work to identify and address the contributing issues. I have a special interest in self-esteem related to ADHD and learning disabilities but work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families around a variety of issues. I can help you explore how past experiences impact current patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Together, we’ll work to help you facilitate meaningful changes based on these insights and increase your sense of mastery and control over your reality. My style utilizes both contemplative and evidence-based (DBT, ACT) modalities of therapy.

Life can bring stressful experiences that, ignored, can lead to feeling like we’re drowning in a sea of our own emotions and memories. These experiences can bring uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and sensations that are hard to understand– It can feel hard to trust others and ourselves. It can be hard to let ourselves get close to the people we love. Thoughts, feelings, and memories can feel unbearable. If you’re ready to take a step toward a more balanced and fulfilling life, together we can: Release painful memories keeping you trapped Swim above the numbness keeping you disconnected Tame the spiral of thoughts keeping you out of control Does this resonate with you? If so, you’re ready to work with me. Through deep, challenging work, I will guide you to a renewed sense of connection with yourself, your relationships, and your world. Let’s get started.

Hello and welcome! I'm a licensed clinical social worker and licensed addictions counselor providing virtual therapy to BIPOC individuals and families in Colorado who are navigating anxiety, depression, and trauma. I received my master's degree in social work and bachelor's degree in psychology from MSU Denver and my professional background includes over 10 years of experience working with BIPOC adolescents, families, and adults in various settings. Clients would describe me as down-to-earth, grounded, validating, and easy to talk to. I value creating a therapeutic relationship that feels genuine and supportive while also encouraging growth and self-reflection. I'm trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy which helps with exploring emotions, attachment patterns, and relationship dynamics to create deeper emotional connection and security; EMDR which allows us to process difficult or traumatic experiences that may continue to impact the present; and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which provides practical tools for managing emotions, navigating stress, improving relationships, and building resilience.

I am a believer that we are all interconnected. Our relationships matter most to our wellbeing. And while we are living in a time where we are easily able to connect with one another, we have also never been so isolated and alone. The messages we receive from our greater systems often are at odds with what I know contribute to our wellbeing. Because of that we can often feel stuck, less than, or constantly hustling for “that thing.” We can end up chasing the wrong thing and find ourselves perpetually behind or inadequate. Our culture often places so much emphasis on outcomes, appearance, and external or material things. I sincerely believe that they are often at the root of our unhappiness. We often are doing the thing we think will help us but it ultimately harms us! We are doing it wrong. Together we will explore the often painful and uncomfortable spaces within and work from an Inside-Out approach. In doing so, we find that the storms tend to be more universal, we see our common humanity, we develop more self compassion and compassion and empathy for others. When we are our authentic selves, we become more free and our sessions will include plenty of laughing even as we dive into the parts that feel hard. We were never meant to do this life alone. And yet – so many of us are often sold on false narratives that “it’s just you” or have been invalidated, shamed, or traumatized by oppressive systems on the larger scale or within our own homes. My pride in the work is to help you become your best self, the one who is not merely living, but the one who is truly alive. Feeling it all, skin in the game, open to heartbreak, receptive to joy. Facing our pain is not easy (I know this well!). But I know deeply that when we do the right kind of hard, our efforts are fruitful beyond measure. Let’s face this together.

My philosophy of counseling is based on the belief that you possess the power to change, and that my role is to help you become aware of how to understand and utilize that power. My goal is to first listen and fully understand your need(s). After that, I will work side by side with you to develop the insights, tools and skills necessary for you to achieve the goals and changes you are seeking to make. I may draw upon various approaches, including Grief Centered Therapy, Person-Centered, Solution Focused Brief Practice, Emotion Focused and CBT. My hope is that our sessions will help you to feel empowered to challenge your internal thinking process to create positive change in your life. I believe these approaches will help to bring about effective long-term results, by helping you to discover how to utilize your own inner strengths and gifts. You are invited to, at any time, ask questions about what we are doing and the reasons for the interventions. This is your process and investment. Please contact me for a free consultation.

Feeling like it's all just too much? Racing thoughts and constant worries that you just can't seem to stop? You feel restless, tired and anxious. Your partner doesn't seem to understand you. You have tried self-help books, groups or apps, but none of these are helping you to get where you want to be. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. I am Katrin Segeletz. As an LPC in Colorado specializing in ADHD and Anxiety, I work with high-functioning women who have mastered the art of holding everything together, but at the expense of their own well-being. I've got you! Together, we'll create practical tools, strategies and systems tailored to your specific needs, aspirations and capacity. After working with me, clients don't just manage their symptoms better - they relate to themselves differently! Instead of feeling "broken" they experience a growing sense of self-trust, clarity and internal calm. In our sessions we do more than just talk, we get results. But this is not another place to perform, it's a place where you can be yourself. Whether we are crying through the hard moments or laughing through your successes, I will be by your side. Let's find your way back to joy. Reach out for a free consultation today.

When Your Brain Never Really Leaves Campus You can be successful in academia and still feel like you’re barely keeping up. Maybe you’re a graduate student staring at a dissertation you somehow both think about constantly and avoid opening. A faculty member juggling teaching, research, service, advising, and the nagging feeling that you should be doing more. Or a campus professional who spends the day supporting everyone else and gets home with very little left for yourself. You’re capable. You care deeply about what you do. And your brain is tired. The people I work with often recognize themselves in thoughts like: “My brain never shuts off.” “I’m always behind, no matter how much I accomplish.” “I overthink every email, decision, and piece of feedback.” “I know I need boundaries, but I feel guilty setting them.” “I’m exhausted, but resting makes me anxious.” “Everyone else seems to know what they’re doing.” “I keep thinking I should be able to handle this.” Therapy for Busy Brains in High-Pressure Academic Spaces I work with graduate and doctoral students, faculty, researchers, administrators, and campus professionals navigating anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, people-pleasing, ADHD-style busy brains, difficult transitions, chronic striving, and the pressure to continually perform. Academic environments can make it remarkably easy to confuse your productivity with your worth. There is always another paper to write. Another student who needs something. Another deadline. Another application. Another committee. Another email you could answer before stopping for the day. And when achievement has gotten you this far, doing more can start to feel like the answer to everything. Until it isn't. Insight Is Important. But Knowing Isn't the Same as Doing. You may already understand your patterns exceptionally well. You know you're overthinking. You know the boundary you probably need to set. You know rest would help. You know you can't guarantee the outcome. You know what you'd tell someone else in your exact situation. And then real life happens. That's where I work. My approach is warm, active, collaborative, and grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We don't just talk about what you “should” do differently. We get curious about what's happening, reconnect with what matters to you, practice responding differently, notice what happens, and adjust. Expect curiosity, reflection, practical tools, real-life practice, honest feedback, and probably a little humor along the way. Support That Can Fit Academic Life I offer individual online therapy for personalized support and Walk & Talk Therapy for clients who think and process better while moving. I also offer Red Door Signature Groups for people who want a structured place to learn, practice, reflect, receive feedback, and try again around some of the patterns that keep high-achieving people stuck, including overthinking and uncertainty, people-pleasing and boundaries, and productivity and self-worth. Because sometimes you don't need another book, podcast, productivity system, or piece of advice. You need a place to practice what you already know when real life makes it hard. You Don't Have to Have It Figured Out Before You Reach Out You might be wondering whether your problems are “serious enough” for therapy. Or what you'd even talk about. Or how you're supposed to fit one more thing into a schedule that's already ridiculous. You don't need the perfect answer before taking the next step. I offer complimentary consultations so you can meet me, ask questions, and decide whether working together feels like the right fit. Small steps open big doors. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults who struggle with emotional dysregulation that can lead to impulsive behaviors or avoidance. My work focuses on helping clients develop emotional awareness, increase psychological flexibility, and cultivate self-compassion while building practical tools for meaningful, lasting change. I bring over ten years of experience in community mental health, two years spent in a full-time position at Western Colorado University’s Counseling Center, where I provided individual counseling to students. As both a former WCU therapist and an alumni of the same school, I have a deep appreciation for the unique challenges students in a small mountain community can face and the support they deserve. My therapeutic approach is integrative and holistic, drawing from evidence-based modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I also incorporate principles from interpersonal neurobiology and attachment theory to create a supportive, grounded, and collaborative environment. I am trained in EMDR and can integrate this more structured approach to trauma processing if requested or recommended. I’m passionate about this work because I believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship and in every person’s capacity for growth. Together, we can create a space that fosters resilience, insight, and meaningful change.

If you know something isn't working, but aren't quite sure how to describe it or what to do next, you're in the right place. Many of my clients come in feeling stuck in familiar patterns, managing stress, navigating major life transitions, or struggling with academic pressure, burnout, identity, and independence as they figure out what comes next. Together, we will find words for your experiences, unpack the root of these patterns, and develop practical skills. We'll use science backed strategies, tailored to your needs, and focus on real change. Therapy with me is collaborative, authentic, and rarely stiff. We’ll build a clear plan, but always make space for real life—whether that’s balancing school and life responsibilities or navigating relationships. Expect hands-on skill-building, patience, a bit of humor, and an approach rooted in your values and goals. Skeptical? Let’s connect for a brief call to see if we’d be a match. If not, I may be able to help connect you to someone on my team who is. Either way, take that first step in making your day-to-day life feel more sustainable, meaningful, and connected.

Has someone gone quiet when you mentioned how your person died, or said "at least they're at peace now"? Grief after a suicide or overdose loss carries an isolation most people never have to explain. If that's you, or you're facing any sudden death, painful breakup, ambiguous loss, or traumatic transition, you don't have to carry it alone. As founder of Vargas Counseling and Consulting and a nationally-recognized grief therapist, DU Graduate School of Social Work professor, and Director of Grief Outreach Programs, I've worked with thousands of bereaved individuals and trained dozens of clinicians and peer helpers in complex loss. I provide highly specialized, trauma-informed grief counseling rooted in Narrative Therapy and relational care. We won't try to "fix" your pain or rush your timeline. Instead, I leverage my deep expertise to help you safely externalize the weight of your loss, process emotional trauma, and gently rebuild meaning, clarity, and hope for your future. You do not have to carry this heavy isolation alone. Healing from painful loss starts by taking one small step. I invite you to reach out today to schedule a free 15-minute consultation call. Let’s connect, see if we are a good match, and begin navigating this path together. Your story, your history, and your grief matter deeply here.
